Piazza Trieste e Trento

Trieste e Trento Square, Piazza Trieste e Trento,  (formerly Piazza San Ferdinando) is located in the historic center of Naples at the junction of major avenues: Via Toledo, Via Chiaia and Via San Carlo. It is contiguous to Piazza del Plebiscito.

It is surrounded by various buildings that give it an irregular shape: the San Carlo Theater, the Royal Palace, the Palace of Cardinal Zapata, the Baroque Church of San Ferdinando, the Umberto I Gallery.

In the center of the square is the Artichoke Fountain, built by Achille Lauro in the 1950s.

On the ground floor of the prefecture building, the famous Caffè Gambrinus has kept a decoration created by late nineteenth and early twentieth century artists such as Gabriele D’Annunzio or Filippo Tommaso Marinetti.
The palace of Cardinal Zapata houses the museum “Principe di Caravita Giuseppe Sirignano”, dedicated to Neapolitan artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Until 1843 was still between the theater and the royal palace the Palazzo Vecchio, built in 1540.
