This last square had different denominations according to the time: Piazza Trinita Maggiore and Piazza Guglielmo Oberdan.<\/p>\n<p>Then the street passes the church of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/en\/santa-chiara-church\/\"><strong>Santa Chiara<\/strong><\/a>, a magnificent temple of the thirteenth century, renovated in the 18th and was almost completely destroyed by the bombing of August 4, 1943.<br \/>\nWith patience, it was rebuilt maintaining its main forms. But most of its paintings have disappeared: those of Mura, Maio, Bonito etc &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In the last chapel on the right before the sacristy, rest the remains of thirty kings and queens including the sarcophagus of Marie-Christine de Savoie, first wife of Ferdinand II of Bourbon.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_245\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/piazza-del-gesu-nuovo-napoli_4874.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-245\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-245 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/piazza-del-gesu-nuovo-napoli_4874.jpg\" alt=\"Piazza del Gesu nuovo\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/piazza-del-gesu-nuovo-napoli_4874.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/piazza-del-gesu-nuovo-napoli_4874-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/piazza-del-gesu-nuovo-napoli_4874-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/piazza-del-gesu-nuovo-napoli_4874-400x266.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-245\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Square Ges\u00f9 Nuovo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Spaccanapoli continues along street<strong>\u00a0Benedetto Croce<\/strong>, named after the philosopher who lived there, ending in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/en\/piazza-san-domenico-maggiore\/\"><strong>Piazza S. Domenico Maggiore<\/strong><\/a>, one of the most important in historic Naples. In the center of the square stands a guglia surmounted by the bronze statue of S. Domenico, built during the plague of 1656.<br \/>\n<strong>San Domenico Maggiore<\/strong> is important for the works of art it preserves such as those of Luca Giordano, Camaino, Titian or Caravaggio. The sacristy offers an unusual spectacle: on a balcony are placed 40 cases of various sizes that contain the remains of kings, princes and illustrious Aragonese.<br \/>\nOnly the case of Alphonse of Aragon is empty, since his body was sent to Spain in 1667.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_246\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/eglise-gesu-nuovo-naples_4806.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-246\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-246\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/eglise-gesu-nuovo-naples_4806.jpg\" alt=\"Eglise Ges\u00f9 Nuovo\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/eglise-gesu-nuovo-naples_4806.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/eglise-gesu-nuovo-naples_4806-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/eglise-gesu-nuovo-naples_4806-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/eglise-gesu-nuovo-naples_4806-400x266.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-246\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Church Ges\u00f9 Nuovo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Just after the <strong>Nilo piazzetta<\/strong>, whose name is derived from an Alexandrian colony dating from the Roman Empire. After the statue of the god of the Nile, the Spaccanapoli takes the name of <strong>San Biagio dei Librai<\/strong>, (Libra: booksellers in Italian), inherited from the historical presence of the corporation booksellers.<\/p>\n<p>We then pass in front of the <strong>Carafa palace<\/strong> where Gian Pietro Carafa was born there in 1476. There was the palace of Vicario, then called <strong>Castel Capuano<\/strong> when the courts were established there.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, the street which takes the name of <strong>Forcella<\/strong> (Fork), ended formerly by the Door Furcillensis. It was narrower than today and there was a small fountain. Towards the end of the 15th century, it was replaced by a larger fountain in the basin of which there was a statue representing a small stocky man. It gave its name to the street <strong>Mezzocannone<\/strong>. (<em>Mezzo<\/em> coming from half, and <em>cannone<\/em> from the water channel).<\/p>\n<div id=\"lmm_3202b85f\" style=\"width:550px;\" class=\"mapsmarker markermap marker-12\">\n<div
