{"id":4252,"date":"2018-03-26T12:56:07","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T11:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/?p=4252"},"modified":"2018-03-26T12:56:07","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T11:56:07","slug":"aragonese-and-spaniards-from-naples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/en\/aragonese-and-spaniards-from-naples\/","title":{"rendered":"Aragonese and Spaniards from Naples"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/photos\/Alfons_Da_Fiesole-Louvre.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/photos\/Alfons_Da_Fiesole-Louvre-naples.jpg\" alt=\"alfonso da fiesole\" width=\"147\" height=\"172\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Alfonso<\/strong> conquered Naples in <strong>1442<\/strong> after his victory against the last king of Anjou, <strong>Ren\u00e9<\/strong>.<br \/>\nHe entered the city triumphantly in February 1443.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/cartes\/deux-siciles.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/cartes\/deux-siciles-II.jpg\" alt=\"Royaume des deux siciles\" width=\"250\" height=\"355\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"10\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new dynasty developed commerce, linking Naples to the Iberian Peninsula and making Naples a center of the <strong>Italian Renaissance<\/strong>: many artists came to work there: Francesco Laurana, Antonello Messina, Jacopo Sannazzaro and Angelo Poliziano.<br \/>\nThe court has also extended the land possessions of the nobles in the province, but the social cohesion of the city suffered.<\/p>\n<p>After the brief conquest of Charles VIII of France in 1485, the two kingdoms were reunited under the <strong>Spanish kingdom<\/strong> in 1501.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/histoire\/charles-III-despagne.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naples-napoli.org\/histoire\/charles-III-despagne-naples.jpg\" alt=\"charles III\" width=\"160\" height=\"225\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 1502 Spanish General Gonzalo Fern\u00e1ndez de C\u00f3rdoba enters the city, inaugurating two centuries of a regime ruled by viceroys almost omnipotent in Naples.<\/p>\n<p>The Spaniards remained until <strong>1707<\/strong>.<br \/>\nDuring this period appeared <em>quarteras<\/em>, now better known as <strong>Spanish Quarters<\/strong> (Quartieri Spagnoli) where began to consolidate the counter-power of the <strong>Camorra<\/strong> (the &#8220;Neapolitan mafia&#8221;, the term Mafia only concerning the island Sicily)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alfonso conquered Naples in 1442 after his victory against the last king of Anjou, Ren\u00e9.
